LESSONS | Josh Shpak

Ever since the age of 9, when Josh began daily trumpet lessons with his mentor/godfather, Michael Miller, Josh learned the importance of focused practice.

Along with these daily lessons from Michael, Josh was fortunate to have weekly lessons with his school music teachers, as well as Mic Gillette from Tower of Power, Dann Zinn and the incomparable Frank Sumares. Additionally, Michael began taking Josh for week-long lessons with jazz legends, Clark Terry and Bobby Shew, who both told him, among other things, how much more he would learn if he started teaching young students.

So, in 9th grade, Josh began giving weekly private lessons to 7 elemementary and middle school students. And now, while a student at the Berklee College of Music, he gives lessons to people of all ages, either in-person or over Skype.

Due to all of the mentoring he himself has received over the years, Josh is able to zero in on exactly what each student needs in order to make the most progress. Depending on what the student wants, he focuses on trumpet technique, composition, improvisation....or all three!  Josh has experience teaching individual students, giving group or ensemble lessons, as well as larger masterclasses.

For anyone interested in taking in-person or Skype lessons with Josh, please contact him through the CONTACT page on this website, and he'll be in touch with you regarding scheduling and price.
